No. We harvest mature pine trees in the Ozark mountains and saw them using vintage tools and techniques mastered by our forefathers generations ago. Then we use our own proprietary process to age, texture and colorize each plank to be indistinguishable from century old weathered boards…without the flaky deterioration and lead-based paints common to old barn wood.
Yes. We bring the moisture content down so the wood stabilizes reducing further shrinkage. The dried planking is lighter weight too, which makes installation a breeze.
It is! our lumber mills have operated in the beautiful Ozark mountains here in "The Natural State" for over 50 years. Being completely vertically integrated, we do everything...from the tree to the timber planking. This keeps our product affordable and available. No supply chain issues. Producing right here in the middle of the country allows fast and affordable shipping. And we can easily accommodatelarge and small orders of standard or custom boards.
Yes but we don’t typically travel to the site, or provide installation services. But we do work with our clients to to find the perfect solution, create custom coloration and custom planking dimensions. We find that some clients need thicker or wider planking. We can also age, texture and colorize both sides and the edges for specific installations in residential or commercial spaces such as restaurants, clubs, and hospitality environments.
We can, yes. Narrow planking produces a more sophisticated look, or a slightly more contemporary feature wall. In this application you may want to split the 4" planks (called ripping) into narrower boards, on a table saw. You might also prefer to edge the narrow planks for a tight, clean fit to compliment the theme. If you prefer turnkey, we can produce your needs on a custom basis.
Great Question. It really depends on the dimensions of the coverage area. For example, if the area were a feature wall measuring 48" wide x 96" tall, the waste would be near zero because our planks are nominally 48" long and 4" in width. Having a perfect space is not realistic, so plan on 10-15% for vertical or horizontal planking applications. Diagonal or herringbone patterns will need up to 25% or so extra for waste. Even so, there are variables, so its a good idea to order extra, just in case
We offer smaller packs in each color, so most people will create their own custom blend from our standard colors. That way you get exactly the look you want! Send us a picture.
We try to offer a promo code from time to time if we have extra inventory, but as a rule, our strategy has been to keep our pricing very reasonable all the time. To take advantage of our occasional promotions be sure to sign up for our newsletter. Its at the bottom of the Home page.
You bet. First secure it to your sub-floor with finish nails. and construction mastic to help reduce squeaks and movement with temperature and humidity changes. Sand your floor lightly to knock down any imperfections, and then coat it at least twice with a durable clear coat. let each coat dry before adding the next. This will lock down any loose graining missed by your sanding step. At TimberDazzle we prefer a flat or satin clear coat. Then you can finish sand once more for a nice smooth floor.
No but they are close. To achieve the signature TimberDazzle look, we use a vintage sawmill which incorporates saw marks and milling imperfections. We kiln dry the planking and the wood naturally shrinks at slightly different rates, depending on the grain density. Nominally, our standard planks are 4” wide and 48” long with very slight variations. Of course, the timbers can be edged on both sides using a table saw for a more precise look.
It's easy and fast. We recommend simple watercolor or acrylic water-based paints. Mix browns or greys for the correct undertone hue, and then add bolder accent colors to get the desired look. Blend your colors as you apply them along the exposed areas. It's almost impossible to get it wrong. If you need to add texture, use 80 grit sandpaper and a simple wood rasp along the raw edges of the plank before applying the paint colors. Apply the brown or grey undertone first, then dab your accent color
Not really. The advantages of our product over reclaimed wood includes product stability, color repeatability, and durability. As wood weathers it deteriorates which causes flaking, splitting and splintering. With reclaimed you risk flaking the old lead-based paints, which are prohibited by law in residential and commercial spaces since 1978.
Yes. It's easy but adds a little time. Say you want a custom blue accent to look as though it was part of a weathered boat-house 100 years ago, Send your blue color swatch for the accent tone. We will produce a round of samples for approval. Sign and send the one that works. We require a $100 non-refundable fee (per round) to develop the samples, Pretty easy.
Certainly. Because you are mitre-cutting at a 45 degree angle (typically) you'll experience more waste. So be sure to order extra. Here is a rule of thumb for calculating: If the coverage area is large assume 15-20% waste. Smaller areas will be more in the 20-25% range.
You can just double the 3/8" thick planking giving you a 3/4" board with weathering on both sides. Refer to the "touch up" question above on coloring the raw edges. You can also order custom planking but the minimum is $400 and the cost per square foot will be higher. Either way, there is a solution for you!
Yes definitely. In the product description for each color -accented offer, you will see that the "undertones" are called out. Example: Old Red Barn has warm brown undertones, which pairs nicely with Kentucky Stable Brown. Kentucky Stable Brown is essentially the same warm brown, with no accent coloration. You can tone down the density of the red (or green, yellow, etc) by replacing 20-80% of the Old Red Barn with Kentucky Stable Brown. Make your own mix. Send us a pic!
We stabilize our planking with a drying process but some movement is to be expected, especially with thin planks. Wood reacts to humidity and temperature. Once fixed in place, however, you should be fine. Most warped planks can be coaxed into place with some muscle power during installation. A cupped board can be flattened by cutting one or two grooves in the backside, along the full length of the plank. Set your table or skill saw to about half the thickness. The cup should press right out.
Absolutely! Click on SHOP NOW anywhere, and look for "Sample Pack" on the product page. We will send a full sample pack in your choice of 6 inch, or 24 inch plank sections. That way you can get a more accurate sense of true color and texture. If you plan to mix colors, which is pretty popular, the samples will help you select a blend of colors that work in your space.
